Are there membership fees?
There are no membership fees for customers or vendors.
We do charge a 10% overhead fee (surcharge) on each order that covers the costs of the market online system including credit card payment processing. This allows the grower to receive more value from the sale of the item, and not have to artificially increase their item pricing to account for overhead.
Will I have to buy vegetables I don't want?
With the Washtenaw Organic Collaborative you can order what you want, in the quantities that you want, from the farms that you want.
The weekly email and update to the store each Sunday will list the produce, eggs, meat, baked goods, milled products, fresh flowers, artisan goods, etc. available that week, and you can browse the items on this website before you place your order.
How do I order?
Each Sunday, a list of available products is sent to all of our registered customers by e-mail. Customers must place their order for the week no later than Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Orders can be placed here on our website. Ordering through this web site is our sole method as it is designed to reduce the amount of time it takes us to process orders as well as provide you with detailed information about our products. Also, using the website allows us to eliminate transactions at pickup while we are practicing social distancing.
When do I pay?
Please make your payment via credit card when you place your order. You may pay for the exact amount of your order. You may also pre-pay a balance ahead of time that the system records and from which future orders will be deducted.
When and Where do I pick up my order?
Customers choose a pickup location during checkout (just above where they click to pay) and then can pick-up their produce at the location they chose. Please note, we cannot accommodate switching pickup locations after your order is placed. Current pickup locations are:
Slow Farm: Saturdays, 9am-12pm, 4700 Whitmore Lake Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Why support Washtenaw Organic Collaborative?
Enhance your local economy: By purchasing produce and other items from local producers you are providing stability to your local economy through the support of local businesses. Our market system will pass on to our producers at least 90% of the sale of each item, possibly more.
Save natural resources: Buying locally makes you an invaluable link in the process of saving resources such as fossil fuels and packaging materials. Also, we are right here in your community so the expense of transportation and delivery is kept to a minimum.
Provide learning opportunities: Washtenaw Organic Collaborative supporters provide member growers the means to help educate our community about the importance of sustainable agriculture.
Support a way of life: Farms that produce food direct for human consumption (as the USDA designates it), and in an organic way, is a good cause. Please help us preserve an honest and worthy means of making a living.
We believe that small, diverse, family-owned organic farms contribute to society’s overall health.
